Triton Artificial Gills For Affordable And Simple Diving Fun

20160328_Rebreather

I’ve done a little scuba diving, and I’m trained in PADI. So I have come to appreciate having a good tank of oxygen and the associated gear. But what if you only needed to bite down on a gadget and dive in the water in order to stay submersed for 45 minutes?

That is the plan with the Triton Re-Breather. Its advanced artificial gill design uses a “Microporous Hollow Fiber” filter, with openings that are smaller than the water molecule itself but still allows the smaller oxygen molecules to pass through. The unit uses a battery powered micro-compressor to grab and store the oxygen in its small tank, which you then breathe in.

If there’s a catch, it’s the fact that the unit only works down to 15 feet. But I have seen many times where that depth equates to a lot of fun in the water. The price is going to be $300 if it makes it to market, and you can find out more about it on its indiegogo page.
