Inventus wins wind powered car race

When I think of a wind powered car in a huge open area I tend to think of a lightweight car with sails attached. But that is far from practical transportation given the mechanics involved.

Inventus is going one step farther with the ideal of wind powered vehicles with their recent win of the Racing Aelus 2008 competition, a wind powered vehicle race.

The Inventus car sports a large wind turbine on top of its small frame , and this provides power to make the car go.  The wind powered vehicle weighs a whopping 286 pounds before the driver gets in (and I would bet the ideal driver could also spend some time as a horse jockey).  Of course, this does not mean that we are going to see mass produced wind powered cars any time soon, but it is cool to see that the creative wheels (and propellers) are turning.
