Tesla Wondercar gets an upgrade

Tesla, the electric wondercar, is getting an upgrade.  The much desired (by this writer) electric sportscar gets a new single speed transmission made by transmission legend Borg Warner.  The new tranny gives the electric roadster more torque, hitting a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds.  Not only that, but the travel distance increases to 244 miles per charge, AND it is more durable than the previous unit.

So, if you are one of the 27 lucky people to own one so far the upgrade is free starting next month.  Cool news is that production will now be ramped up to 10 roadsters per week this year, with a target of 40 per week for 2009.  Wow, I can't wait for the mass produced price drop to take effect...
