TV Remote with integrated mouse makes media PC control simple

Hooking up a computer to the main home entertainment area really makes sense, it allows you to tap into digital media of all types, including online and stored sources.  I have done this for years, and the most difficult aspect of it has been in finding the best controller to make it feel more like an entertainment hub than a computer.  But with the PC Remote Controller II this might be a lot easier thanks to the integrated mouse controller built in to the TV style remote.

Product Specifications:

  • USB interface
  • Wireless mouse function
  • Driver is not needed
  • A, B, C, D Hotkeys: each key can be set to open a software
  • Remote distance: 18m
  • Receiver is powered by USB
  • Remote is powered by 2pcs AAA batteries (Not included)
  • Support software: WMP, RealPlayer, KMPlayer, TTPlay, WinDVD, PowerDVD
  • Support Windows 2000/XP/VISTA
  • Remote size: 185*52*27mm
  • Cable length: 129cm (approx.)
  • Weight: 90g
  • The unit sells for $21, and you can find it at Gadget4all.  At first glance this seems to be a much better interface than others I have used in the past, and this includes an infrared keyboard (trust me, not as convenient as a remote, since it requires two hands, one to hold it) and a wireless presentation mouse (still need the other remote to control the rest of the setup). Of course, at times you will need an onscreen keyboard to enter information with this type of remote, but most OS these days come with one handy for just such an occasion.  As to how well it works, I have not personally tried the unit here.  The price is very reasonable, but my only gripe is that it appears to be IR, not radio frequency controlled.  But it has a decent range listed in the specs, and given that it is a TV style remote this is probably not an issue in its use.
