Greg Chaffins Just when you thought it wasn’t ever going to happen, Apple has announced a new iteration of their most expensive headset option the AirPods Max 2©. The latest version is packed with even more audio computational goodies than before, thanks to the inclusion of Apple’s proven H2 chip.
The new design features 1.5x more Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) than the previous model, and features deep bass and crisp highs. New intelligent features include Live Translation, Adaptive Audio, and conversation awareness. This brings The AirPods Max up to a technological level equal to other models in the AirPods line.
It’s not just a new H2 chip, the AirPods Max 2 also feature a new high dynamic range amplifier that allows even more headroom than previously available. And if you demand lossless audio beyond the specs of what Bluetooth can deliver (which is almost minimal by this time), you can still use a USB-C cable to pump the tunes over losslessly.
Perhaps the one thing that I wish they had changed but didn’t is the AirPods Max smart case design, but that’s something that you get used to soon enough. There are still 20 hours of playback between charges, so the new technology isn’t coming at the expense of battery life. All said it is a solid update to a proven headphone design.
Preorders will soon be available on the Apple website or in store, and units start shipping in April.
