I don’t know if this is something that the world is desperate to have invented, but it is certainly cool to watch the technology do its thing. Just imagine, chairs in a typical conference room that, with the simple action normally reserved for activating a clapper, all park themselves in a neat and orderly fashion.
Nissan built the self-parking chairs as a showcase for their self-parking car technology, and it is great to see how well it works. From watching the video, it seems that the chairs are tracked from overhead by a camera, and they are remote controlled into position by a central unit. While not exactly self-parking, it is cool technology.
But now I wonder what kind of office chair mischief this could lead to. I can already imagine a chair race where the first one back in position wins. Did someone say obstacle course? And, of course, self-parking office chair olympics. The possibilities are definitely intriguing.
