Dell Releases Inspiron Mini 9 netbook, offers $100 deal

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is officially available today, or at least the $399 Windows XP version is.  The newest netbook class machine sports an Intel Atom Diamondville processor, 1024 x 600 LED backlit screen, SSD, and a three hour battery life.  The $349 Ubuntu flavor, along with the other colors, will not be available for a few weeks.

The price is pretty good, but my biggest concern is the battery life.  Hopefully there will be an optional extended battery pack in the near future (for comparison, the Asus 901 gets 5 hours in real world use out of a rated 7 per charge, so you could probably expect 2.5 hours max on this one).  Otherwise it looks to be a nice netbook.

But if you want one, and you need to buy another machine as well, Dell has a sweet deal for you. If you purchase a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 machine from Dell, you can buy an Inspiron Mini 9 for a suitable mini price of $99.  This deal is only valid until 6AM September 9th, so don't delay if you are in the market for both.
