Most of us have seen the wind chime that hangs from a tree or doorway and spins when the wind blows. While that is certainly eye catching to look at, Firewinder has a new spin (literally) on the concept – they have a version that converts the spinning motion into electricity so that the wind chime lights up.
Illumination is provided by 14 ultra bright LEDs, and the spiraling helix design works to capture power regardless of the wind direction. The placement of the LEDs on the edge of the helix helps to produce a unique light effect while spinning. Apparently the unit does not store the charge for lighting later, but rather produces light only when the wind is blowing – which to me seems fitting.
