iTunes Sync – Crossing the Barrier to Non-iPods

During a walk on a brisk morning I find another cool mp3 player that has washed up on the Beach.  It looks like it would be a great device to use, but it is definitely not an iPod.  Undaunted and liking the player’s features, I carry it back to the beachhouse and hook it up to the laptop.  I pull up iTunes, and the device easily syncs to it, tapping into my personal music library.  The sync is now complete, all without scouring the web for a driver or updating any programs.

On Nerd Beach we have a lot of different mp3 players that wash up from the ether sea, some quite interesting.  However, there is not always a convenient way to use them with the laptop since each have their own software.  Now Binary Tree Software has moved one step closer to setting up iTunes as the defacto standard with the fairly recent release of iTunes Sync.  This software will let you configure multiple devices, including some cell phones such as the Razr and Rokr, with different playlists.  There is one catch, though, and I bet you will not be surprised – it does not work with a Zune.

Aloha from the Beach,
greg
