Lockheed Martin's Multiple Kill Vehicle-L (MKV-L) is a terminator for ICBM missiles. Destroying an ICBM can be a challenge, since they typically contain Multiple-Inbound Reentry Vehicles (MIRV), consisting of live warheads and inert projectiles designed to confuse defense systems
The success of the MKV-L is due to a refinement in the infrared pathfinder seekers. The seekers make it possible to track all of the MIRV, taking them out before any harm can happen.
Lockheed Martin is continuing with testing, and they hope to have the MKV-L in operation as of 2017.
