Matsushita Panasonic Announces Nano Silicon Lighting

Matsushita Electric Works (soon to be Panasonic) has announced a new lighting device that could one day be as important as LED and OLED.  In experiments, the device produced50% more light than existing lights that consumed the same energy.

The technology behind the new light source comes from electron-discharging nano silicon.  This causes the Xenon gas to emit UV light, which in turn causes the phosphor to flouresce, creating visible light.  And this is done without the use of mercury, which is required in today's fluorescent lighting.

Matsushita will present more details to the general public in Poland this July 13th at the  21st International Vacuum Nanoelectronics Conference to be held in Poland from July 13.  Since it is a type of fluorescent lighting the new technology could easily fit into existing lighting models, making it a natural fit and possibly gain acceptance quickly.
