If you are looking for an economical projector, then the Olens XPJ might be a good choice to consider. The $279 unit is rated for displaying images from 40 to 70 inches, making for a pleasant experience for watching movies or playing games.
The projector has a resolution of 640×480, but for the occasional game or movie this should still give respectable performance. The light source is from a proprietary 270 watt bulb rated at 300 hours, but thankfully new bulbs are only $30. Not only that, the projector even comes with a spare bulb.
The projector features built in speakers, removing the need for a separate audio setup. The video connections include VGA, S-Video, and composite video. While the Olens XPJ is hardly the choice for a dedicated home theater, for occasional use the projector would give a lot of fun for the money. It could easily make for a "movie night" experience, and in locations that would otherwise prove to be bothersome if you tried to lug the big screen.
