Greg Chaffins Philips has made an attempt other to recapture those 80s feel goods with their new product line, called the “Moving Sound Revival.” This leads to some new products, including the Tube and the Roller (any else thinks of skating or surfing things with those names?)
The Tube holds true to its nomenclature and resembles a cylinder that sports two side firing radiators in its design. The unit packs some power as it has 140W of output that drives two five inch woofers and two 1.5 inch dedicated tweeters. The battery life is rated at 24 hours, and it connects via Bluetooth 5.5.
The roller has a more classic design with a 60w power rating. The sounds here come from two woofers, two tweeters and also incorporates passive radiators in the sound mechanics. It’s easy to imagine the big speakers on the roller as big wheels, which I assume is how it got its name.
Both units come in a cool hot yellow and a basic black color, and feature handles that any respectable boom box of the time would use. There’s a touch of modern too, with bult-in color displays that emulate a cassette tape. Without the cassette tape muted miss and occasional drag, of course.
While I appreciate the attempt made for the retro appeal, the boomboxes of the time lacked such stylish designs – I was there. The yellow color does hit though, and I can certainly see the appeal of the fun yellow color. There are also wireless earbuds in the Moving Sound Line, which is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of this year.
