The small Diamler produced Smart Car will be shipping in 2010 with an electric motor. That is the news from Daimler’s CEO Dieter Zetsche.
The company is not sure yet who will make the electric motors or the batteries, but the company is determined to make the switch over to electric power. One possible option lies with Project Better Place, but nothing is confirmed as of this writing.
I have to commend Diamler on taking a bold stand and drawing a line in the sand a very short distance from today. Time will tell if they can make the switch by the planned date, but it does seem more and more like electric cars of some type are in every motorist's future.
