Freebie Friday – Celebrate Urban Birds Kit

It’s time for Freebie Friday again, and today we find a freebie at Cornell University that deserves a little attention.

As a part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, a small kit is offered that celebrates the urban birds in and around the country.  The kit includes two posters, a welcome letter, a sticker, and a handy bird data form so you can participate in the optional local bird data collection when out birdwatching.  Sounds like it could be fun.  From the website:

“Imagine if everyone participating in the Celebration sent in their data… People of all ages and birdwatching abilities working together … this could be the largest urban bird monitoring effort ever!”

To check it out go to the Cornell Celebrate Urban Birds page.

Freebie Friday – Hard Drive predictive monitor

It's time for a Freebie Friday again, and this time we have a utility that may save you a lot of grief and woe.  The HHD Health program is a nifty little piece of freeware that sits in your system tray, monitoring your hard drives and alerts you if something is askew.   The program taps into the  Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks, and it can predict failures on your drives.

You can find the predictive freebie at Panterasoft.  Unfortunately, it only predicts failures with your hard drives, so everything else is just going to have to be a surprise.

Freebie Friday – K2 Snowboarding Swag

It's time for another Freebie Friday, and today we have some free random swag for you from K2 Snowboards, the premier name in snowboarding.  The free items can include "snowboards, to beanies, to stickers, to bindings, to tees, to…"

The giveaway is part of K2's 20th anniversary celebration (which has apparently been extended into 08 as well).  From humble beginnings in 1987 to today, K2 has helped snowboarding pioneers blaze the way from an early concept to an accepted sport.

To check out the freebie go to the K2 website.
