Fly with a Water Jet Pack That You Can Buy Today

I have had dreams of flying for a long time, and always hoped that I could buy a real jetpack of my own before the year 2000 rolled around. Well, that never happened, but the JET-LEV FLYER Water Jet Pack is available for purchase today. But at $130k, I think I may sleep on it a bit before I rush to buy one.

The jetpack certainly looks like a lot of fun. Plus, if something were to go wrong, you would theoretically land safely in water. That is at least one safety feature  that those land based jet packs can't claim. But then again, owning a boat is no doubt mandatory for the continued enjoyment of this jetpack. Still, to fly in your own jetpack, it just might be worth it.

Not Your Father's Jetpack

During World War II, Germany made late-war experiments of strapping two wearable shortened Schmidt pulse jet tubes of low thrust to the body of a pilot. The working principle was the same as the Argus As 014 pulse jet that powered the Fieseler Fi 103 flying bomb (more popularly known as V-1 or buzz bomb), though the size was much smaller

Pressure sensing golf glove monitors and perfects your grip

Golf is a difficult game to master, and there have been lots of technology brought into the game in an attempt to help the player master it.  The latest that we've seen is the SensoGlove from SensoSolutions of Germany, and it is designed to help the player get the perfect light grip that allows for maximum playing control.

The glove features pressure sensors built into each finger, and these sensors are monitored as you swing.  The glove can give you an audible warning if you give the club a death grip while playing, and the LCD screen built onto the glove will show you the offending digit(s).  Of course, if you are like me fixing the grip is only the start to the problem, but it is a very fundamental place to begin.

More information about the SensoGlove can be found at the SensoGlove website.

Touched Echo Audio Display Uses Arms and Hands as Earphones

Audio devices are getting to the point where they can be very subtle and practically merge into the background environment.  Of course, sometimes the newest technology (that is, applied science) is not cutting edge itself, but in the application of known facts.  This is where the simple but effective bone conduction technology fits in, and at Brühl’s Terrace in Dresden, Germany it works quite well.

To experience the "Touched Echo" display, visitors rest their elbows on the railing and put their hands to their ears. Their arms and hands act as a sound conductor, delivering the sound to their ears.  No other hardware is required, and there is nothing to break down or need replacing.  The display does not disturb other visitors, since there is no sound transmission without physical contact.

The display itself is a recreation of the sounds of explosions, airplanes, dropping bombs, air raid horns, and more that happened on the site on February 13, 1945.  The video shows the audio display in action with some casual users.

Camoria is the Important Moment Sensing Auto Camera

Camoria-emotion-controlled-digicam_062408What if you had a camera with you at all times, and it could sense emotional or important moments in your life and automatically took a picture to remember it by?  That is the concept behind the Camoria, a digital emotion sensing camera concept designed to be worn over the ear. The Camoria was designed by Akbiyik Volkan from Stuttgart, Germany as a bachelor thesis.

Of course, since you are wearing the automatic camera there would be no pictures of you in the photos, but that might be the best strategy. The last thing you would probably want is pictures of yourself at a bad moment, and the whole concept would quickly turn into a series of face shots.

I am not certain if I would like such a device, but in a world where MySpace and blogs have millions of people sharing personal life experiences it would no doubt find a market and complement what is already in place.  At the moment it is only a concept device, but manufacturers are being sought out.  More information can be found On the Designer's website.
