Coby Introduces $99 HDR Radio Receiver

High Definition Radio (HDR) has not exactly taken off as well as some would like to see it, and one of the reasons could be the relatively high cost of the players.  Coby is challenging that theory with a sub-$100 HDR player.

The $99 Coby HDR-650 is a basic HDR player without internal speaker.  It is designed to be used with a home audio system, and sports component audio outputs.  An LCD display shows the station and extra information.

Coby also offers the bigger and more featured  HDR-700 for $150, which has an internal speaker for direct listening, a SD card slot for playing existing media, rechargeable battery for five hours use, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack for private listening.

The Coby HDRs should appear sometimes in August.

4GB USB Flash Drive Watch is Handsome and Practical

The 4GB USB Flash Drive Watch conceals a USB drive in its handsome frame.  The stainless steel masked watch has a brushed silver finish and convex mineral glass with a shiny raised index.  The drive fits flush with the contour of the watch (the picture shows the USB drive not fully inserted), and to use you simply pull out the drive and insert it into an USB slot.  That is, no cable is required.  However, we doubt if it is weatherproof, so don't forget and go swimming with it. (Althoguh a SD card of mine did once survive the wash, the watch itself may not fare so well).

The 4GB USB Flash Drive Watch costs $60, and you can find it at ThinkGeek.

XBox Dashboard Update Details

We mentioned the Microsoft-Netflix deal that would give XBox 360 owners access to the Netflix streaming library, and today we have more information on that as well as the fall update in general.

The Netflix movies will be streamed in SD resolution, with eventual HD support.  You will need XBox Live Gold membership to  acces the steraming movies, and you can share the videos with other gold members and/or netflix subscribers.

The Xbox Dashboard update gives you an avatar environment (whether you llike it or not), but they will spare the users the need to walk their virtual selves everywhere to do required actions.  The new look is nice, and media access is much slicker than before, with browsing not unlike the cover Flow that Apple offers on their products.  Very slick.

Verbarius Clock Tells the Time With Words Not Digits

While not as wordy as some long winded clocks, Verbarius is a clock that tells the time the way people do, with descriptive words not just digits.  The clock supports five languages preloaded (Russian, English, German, Spanish and French), and you can upload other languages as well via a computer USB port.

The clock states the time uniquely every minute, from "fifteen minutes to five" to "quarter to five" and "four forty-five".  Included is a power supply cord, USB connector, CR2032 battery (for battery backup), and 512mb SD card.

The Verbarius clock measures  7.9" × 2.8" ×1.7", costs about $220, and you can find it here.
