Telephone Software Double Checks When You Call In Sick

If you work in the UK and call in sick, you had better mean it. According to the Daily Mail article, one company, Capita and Digilog UK, has created software called Voice Risk Analysis, that basically listens to the phone conversation and flags HQ if the voice of the caller waivers or hits other questionable markers. So, if you must take off of work, send in a note by email (which is no doubt against company policies, at least those with the software installed).

The real beauty of this product is that you only need the threat of having the software for it to be effective.  You could get really fancy and have a machine on the line that goes "ping" every few seconds, convincing the caller that something more is going on than meets the eye ear.

Now I have to wonder – how long it will be before such software graduates from being used as a fake sick call in detector (which itself is a 2.5 billion dollar issue in the UK) and starts working in a lot of telephone business negotiations (if not already)?
