The Star Trek Experience has now boldly went

I hate to do this, but I must inform you that the Star Trek Experience in the Las Vegas Hilton has shut down.  The Future Museum opened in January 1998, and officially closed on September 1, 2008.

The problem was credited to a lease issue between Cedar Fair Entertainment Company ( who purchased Paramount Parks from the CBS Corporation) and the Las Vegas Hilton, but declining admission played a part as well.  The sets are simply too large to transport, so they will probably end up being destroyed.  The props themselves are slated to be returned to CBS, but where that may lead is unknown.

For more information about this one of a kind Trek Experience check out the Wikipedia Star Trek: The Experience page.  For the Trek fans it seems that things are becoming a bit dismal, but the new Star Trek movie in the works may relight the Trek fire in a major way.  Personally I would be happy with just a new Trek show, and right now would be the perfect time.

And for the record, a Star Trek exhibit in Vegas, baby, lasted 10 years.  That has to show something positive.
