The Roborock Saros Z70 is like other robotic vacuums you’ve seen working in the wild, but with one glaring addition: It has a robotic arm, complete with gentle but effective working hand, mounted in the center of its platform. And SkyNet fears aside, I like it.
The Saros Z70 sports a mechanical 5 axis mechanical arm that it can use to move obstacles out of its way while it’s doing its chore of vacuuming. The device does this intelligently by using AI to match the detected object, using sensors and a pair of cameras, to its library of objects. It can even be programmed to move some recognized objects to areas that the user defines through a downloadable app.
The device is intelligent enough to maintain its own map of your living space, in this way knowing when an object is out of place. It can simply move the object out of its way so that it can work the leaning pattern, or place the object where it needs to go. You can even add in up to 50 of your own objects for it to recognize, although lifting is limited to 300g at this time.
Having a robot vacuum that can pick up after you is great. So many times I’ve seen a robotic vacuum bump into something left on the floor, and I can watch it deviate from its cleaning routine just because of the encounter. This ultimately leaves part of the floor unswept until the next cycle. The Saros Z70 eliminates this problem, and in some cases even tidies up. Who knows, maybe robots will be our friends after all.
