Vivitar DVR565HD is New Point and Shoot Video Camera Entry

vivitar_dvr565hd

The point and shoot camera, a staple of the camera industry, is slowly being replaced by the point and shoot digital video camera. Currently the most popular of these is the Flip Digital video camera, but the Creative Vado is an up and coming challenger. Now we have another entry to that race, the Vivitar DVR565HD Digital Camcorder.

The DVR565HD has the price and the qualifications to make a good go at it. First, the price, Target has it for $129.99. Next, the features include the ability to record 30fps 720P MPEG4, the capability to play 1080i videos, and it connects to a HDTV with an included HDMI cable. Storage is a standard SD card. Overall a very impressive package for the price.

The biggest problem with the DVR565HD is probably the name.  The names Flip and Vado (once you learn it) are easy to remember, and easy to talk about. DVR565HD just does not roll off the tongue so well.  I'm glad to see more entries in this area, but I do think Vivitar should consider a pet name for their device in their marketing some time soon.
