Volvo is planning on introducing the Tandem Car in 2010, an inline seating vehicle that is very energy efficient and is very maneuverable for city traffic. Not to mention it looks really cool, like something from 2040.
The Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center (VMCC) has been conducting research on the vehicle since 1998, so the design is no doubt somewhat proven. However, the real challenge will be to see if Volvo can make the car production worthy by 2010. The inline design cars are coming, no doubt – the energy efficiency in a narrow front and inline sitting (passenger behind the driver)is just too strong. The real question is when.
