Architect Builds Upscale House from Car Parts

When architect Karl Wanaseljia and his fellow architect wife Cate Leger decided to build their house, they wanted to incorporate some form or sustainable material. But instead of heading for the forest or the desert, they instead ran the the nearest salvage yard. The end result is their upscale home that is made entirely from auto parts.

Now, we're not talking about that house on the corner with all of the hubcaps on display. Instead, their home is designed to incorporate used automotive materials as the foundation for building. From the sheet metal siding to the Dodge Caravan window awnings, the finished home is much nicer than you would expect from the description. But don't take my word for it – check out the following video and judge for yourself.

Wrecking Yard

A scrapyard (British English) or junkyard (American English) is the location of a dismantling business where wrecked or decommissioned vehicles are brought, their usable parts are sold for use in operating vehicles, while the unusable metal parts, known as scrap metal parts, are sold to metal-recycling companies. Other terms include wreck yard, wrecker's yard, salvage yard, breakers yard, dismantler and scrapheap). In the United Kingdom, car salvage yards are known as car breakers, while motorcycle salvage yards are known as bike breakers.
