Astrophotographer Creates Incredible Milky Way Time Lapse Montage

Astrophotographer Harley Grady spent a couple years creating a time lapse image of nothing less than the Milky Way, and it is a splendor to view. The colors of our galaxy come through in the video, and it seems to invoke relaxation.

Harley used a Canon 5D MK II, a Canon 24-105mm f2.8, and a Canon 16-35mm f2.8 equipment to create the video, along with Quicktime Pro. If you are interested in how to get involved with this kind of photography, check out the his tutorial below.

Time-Lapse Photography

Time-lapse photography is a cinematography technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that which will be used to play the sequence back. When replayed at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing. For example, an image of a scene may be captured once every second, and then played back at 30 frames per second; the result would be an apparent increase of speed by 30 times. Time-lapse photography can be considered to be the opposite of high speed photography.
