ut3_061308 The perennial video game shooter favorite releases a new chapter on July 11th when Unreal Tournament 3 is released for the Xbox 360 gaming console in the United States.

The 360 version of the game features five exclusive maps, split screen capabilities, two new tournament characters, and the new Warfare mode of playing. All previously downloadable new content will also be included.

If you live in Europe, you can get the new Unreal Tournament 3 for the 360 a few days earlier, since it is slated to launch there on July 4th.  The title has already sold in excess of 1 million on the PC and Playstation 3 platforms.

Samsung i900 Omnia Windows Mobile Cell Phone Announced

Samsung_i900_omnia_060908Samsung has officially announced their Windows Mobile 6.1 powered i900 Omnia  cell phone, and it has a nice set of features. These include quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE support, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, and FM Tuner. The camera is a nice 5 megapixel version with smile detection and geotagging capability. The display is a healthy 3.2 inches across and has a 400×240 resolution. There is a good possibility that Samsung's TouchWiz will be the default user interface.  A built in accelerometer is included, for what I assume will be automatic screen orientation (but it would be cool if that functionality would be open up to third party developers, no word yet).

The phone will be offered in 8gb and 16gb versions. The i900 Omnia cell phone should be available in Europe in July.

HTC Raphael Smartphone Landing in Europe as T-Mobile MDA Vario IV

tmobileMDAVarioIV

One of the latest HTC smartphones, the  HTC Raphael, will soon land in Europe with a new moniker, now dubbed the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV. Expected for a Q2 2008 release, the phone has a lot of strong features, including a 480×640 screen, a healthy 528 mhz processor, and 256mb of onboard RAM.

The radio features on the HTC Pocket PC are strong as well, including tri-band GSM, WiFi, GPS, and a FM Radio.  Rounding it out is a very capable 3.2mp camera.

Unfortunately, it is not coming to the states in this incarnation, but Sprint is planning on bringing the unit out to replace its current HTC Mogul, and if things work out it should be available around September.

Medion Akoya Joins Asus, HP in Sub-Notebook Market

medion_akoya_1The sub-notebook computer, thanks in no small way to recent offerings from Asus and HP, is gaining popularity in drives.  The most recent entry into this market is by European computer maker Medion, and the computer is the Akoya.

The Akoya has a 10.2 inch display, comes in shiny black and white, and costs €399 ($620/£318). The (most likely)Atom based sub-notebook includes 1GB of DDR2 memory, 80gb 5400 rpm drive, 3 USB ports and 802.11N. The display is 1024 x 600, and it comes with Windows XP. An optional six cell battery is also available.

The unit, with standard battery, weighs in at 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs), and measures just 247 x 179 x 28-36mm (9.7 x 7 1.1 – 1.4 inches).  This should make the Akoya easy to carry and fit into your life.

The Akoya is a nice looking machine, and it is very much like the Hp Mini-Note in appearance, but a bit larger (10 inch screen vs 9 inch HP) at the same weight.  The HP has a higher resolution screen (1366 x 766), but some like the physical size better. As for the maker, Medion is known as a low cost provider of computers in Europe, and the reviews of their products are mixed. However, there does seem to be a decent following for their products.
