Transparent Epson Moverio VR Glasses Lets You Take Your VR On The Go

In today's world we often find it convenient – if not downright necessary – to multitask as we go through our tasks. Well, this is one device that may oddly enough help us do that despite the looks otherwise.

The Epson Moverio BT-100 virtual reality glasses are like your typical virtual reality glasses, but with a twist – you can see through them. This transparent setup lets you watch a video or catch up with your email while going about your more mundane tasks. The Moverio is powered by Android 2.2, and sports flash capability and Wifi, so you can stay connected while you are multi-tasking.

The display is rated as QHD, so the glasses should have a decent resolution of 960×540. The optics will give you the same image as a 320 inch screen from 20 meters. With this you might want to keep one pocket clear for the popcorn as you enjoy your favorite videos on the move. And with a 6 hour run time between charge you could do a lot of moving before going back for more power.

But the really exciting aspect of these and other such VR glasses are the wonderful aspects of Augmented Reality that it allows you. With the WiFi connectivity it would be easy to imagine the display interacting with your world, overlaying maps and information as you go about your work. The possibilities really are limitless, provided the infrastructure is in place to support them.

The VR specs will set you back about $650, and will launch in Japan later this month. More information can be found on the Epson News Release.

Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.
