Use Siri to Update Twitter and Facebook

If you have an iPhone 4S, then you may already be familiar with a lot of the amazing things that the built in virtual assistant Siri is capable of doing. However, one area that Siri is lacking is in the ability to update a status on Twitter and Facebook. That is, Siri con't update them directly. However, there is a simple workaround, and soon you will find that updating your status with Siri is a simple thing to do. No doubt later incarnations of Siri will not need this step, but who wants to wait when it is so simple?

First, you need to do a one time set up for your iPhone to update Twitter and Facebook via SMS. For twitter, text "Start" to 40404 (U.S. only, other country codes here). After you enter your credentials, save the short code (40404, or as applicable for your location) as a contact, and for simplicity name it "Twitter.

Next, you will want to set up Facebook. In a similar way, text "Hello" to 32665 (U.S. only, other country codes here). Click on the reply and enter credentials (username, password), then save the applicable short code as a new contact and name it "Facebook".

Now you are set up to update Twitter and Facebook via Siri. Simply activate Siri on your iPhone and say "Send a text to Twitter (status update)" or "send a text to Facebook (status update)". Siri will confirm the status update with you, then send the update. Now you can update your Twitter or Facebook wherever you are at, even jogging or walking in the park, thank to Siri. Just like you would expect from any good virtual assistant. Please note, there may be a message charge if you do not have a SMS message plan on your phone.
