Vintage Computer Symphony

If you have spent time working with computers as they have evolved to sleek wonders of today, you may remember the sounds experienced along the way. From the whine of a dot matrix printer to the chirp of an MFM drive, these sounds are now embedded in our subconscious. The current generation will probably never have the chance to sample these sounds for themselves in a functioning environment, but that doesn't mean they need to be lost forever.

Instead YouTube user bd594 has gathered the aged equipment and used it to make beautiful music. Among the classic items used, you will find:

  • HP Scanjet 3P playing vocals
  • Atari 800XL filling in as organ
  • Texas Instrument TI-99/4A as the guitar
  • Dissected MFM Drive as drum and cymbal

But without further ado, here is a classic computer remix of House of the Rising Sun by The Animals:

And if that wasn't enough, enjoy a computer remix of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody:

Atari 8-bit Computers

The Atari 8-bit family is a series of 8-bit home computers manufactured from 1979 to 1992. All are based on the MOS Technology 6502 CPU and were the first home computers designed with custom coprocessor chips. Over the following decade several versions of the same basic design were released, including the original Atari 400 and 800 and their successors, the XL and XE series of computers. Overall, the Atari 8-bit computer line was a commercial success, selling two million units through its major production run between late 1979 and mid-1985, a total of around 4 million units.
