Think Electric Car is US Bound

The Think Electric Car from the Norwegian Automaker Think Global may soon be availalbe in the US.  For city commuters this might be a really convenient vehicle, going 110 miles on a single charge and able to hit 65 mph.

The plans are to sell 30,000 vehicles anually at an approximate street price of $25,000.  While some of you may be holding out for one of those swoopy electric sports cars, this car may even prove to be practical.

The Star Trek Original Series Plot Count

If you are reading this blog then you probably either have or know someone that has watched Star Trek: The Original Series more than once.  While this television show has withstood the test of time and continues to be popular, there are certain plot elements that were used more than once.  While this is not uncommon in a television series, it is entertaining to see the statistics of the plot usage. Kudos to ex-astris-scientia.org for getting these interesting plot counts together. So, without further ado:

Rank in total usage/series usage count

  • 10. A Federation official influences the development of an alien planet: 4
  • 9. Kirk argues a computer to death: 4
  • 8. An enormous machine/being has to be destroyed to save the galaxy: 5
  • 7. Being a Vulcan, Spock is immune to an infection/injury/radiation: 5
  • 6. A whole planet is under computer control: 7
  • 5. A scientist or Federation official goes insane: 8
  • 4. A superior being/race holds our heroes hostage for their enjoyment: 8
  • 3. McCoy finds the cure for a previously unknown disease in a matter of hours: 10
  • 2. Kirk’s womanizing qualities help solve a critical situation: 12
  • 1. Kirk engages in a brawl and/or has his shirt torn: 25

I personally am surprised the number of times Kirk engages in a brawl was not higher, but that number (25) is getting close enough to half of the episodes to sound about right.  That is one thing I loved about the original series, it really lived up to Roddenberry’s “Wagon train to the stars” concept.

One of the Coolest Laptop Bags Ever

Okay, this has to be one of the coolest laptop bags ever.  Imagine, owning a laptop bag that went into space and back.  The ISS Soyuz laptop bag features a piece of the landing parachute from the Soyuz TMA-3 mission  to the International Space Station in April 2004.  A nice bag that can fit up to 17" wide screen laptops, it even comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.  For more information click the picture or click here:  Flown In Space – ISS Soyuz Laptop bag

Maybe it is just me, but I always get excited about space memorabilia.  I would love the chance to make some of my own someday.

The Handy Spoon Scale

I have always been a sucker for really cool kitchen gadgets, maybe in the false hope that they would lead to eventually learning to actually cook.  In the cool but logical gadget category we have the Spoon Scale, a spoon which really measures up.  Digitally.

The Spoon Scale can measure down to .005 oz (0.1g), up to 10.5 oz (300g), and is switchable between units.  This is perfect for measuring those specific recipes, and it works with solids and liquids alike.  Now if only I could figure out what to do with the ingredient after the measuring…
