175 Degree Wrap Around Gaming Rig

Now here is a gaming rig that I would not mind a bit to install at the NerdBeach quality assurance lab. The setup features an impressive 160 inch curved screen that wraps 175 degrees around the (no doubt happy) gamer. Yeah, that would work nicely.

The system uses a series of rear mounted projectors to create the wrap around illusion, and you can probably speculate about the PC hardware required to drive everything.

Shown is the setup coupled with an F1 racing simulator kit, and the package will set you back about $114,000. But can you really put a price on that kind of gaming goodness? Apparently so…

Formula One

Formula One cars are among the fastest circuit-racing cars in the world, owing to very high cornering speeds achieved through the generation of large amounts of aerodynamic downforce. Formula One cars race at speeds of up to 320 km/h (200 mph) with engines limited in performance to a maximum of 18,000 revolutions per minute (RPM). The cars are capable of lateral acceleration in excess of 5 g in corners.

Nerd versus Geek (Infographic)

Nerd versus geek – is it as clear cut as Star Wars fans versus Star Trek fans? The infographic below would suggest as such, but being a much stronger Star Trek fan myself I tend to think of the average Trekkie as a bit more cultured, with Star Wars fans to be of a much younger set. To each their own, enjoy the graphic.

Nerds Vs Geeks

Internet SciFi Fandom By The Numbers (InfoGraphic)

Have you ever wondered which SciFi fan base was the most popular on the internet? This infographic takes a look at the different bases by title and compares them based on Facebook likes, Ebay listings, fanfiction, and more. The numbers just might surprise you – but I believe that a few of these will still be strong in five years while others may be more esoteric in nature. Check out the infographic and judge for yourself.

The Star Trek Franchise Infographic

There can be little doubt that Star Trek has been a successful franchise over the years. But exactly how many components are there to Star Trek? While most Trekkies know this by heart, the following infographic takes a look at all things Star Trek as far as official TV Shows and Movies are concerned.

Of course, this does not take into account the hundreds of books, excellent fan movies, video games, and more that the franchise has spawned. But it is a nice start.
