Ever think about taking a magna-doodle and turning it into a clock? Most people probably do not, but it occurred to a recent UCLA mechanical engineering class, so they built it.
The clock incorporates a XY plotter to move the magnetic pen in place, drawing the time on the screen. After a minute is up, a mechanism pulls the erase lever, and the time is drawn again. Since there is no support for pulling the pen back from the surface everything is connected by a continuous line, but this just gives it cool Etch-A-Sketch look.
