Metronomes that Flock Together

Resonance and harmonics are at work in the world about us, every moment of the day.  Together it can topple mountains, crash bridges and, I personally believe, sway public opinion.  But here we have a great example of it t work.  When the metronomes are placed on something solid there is not enough vibration between them to cause an effect.  Now, when they are lifted onto the cans, the thinner material allows for the vibrations to be carried to the other metronomes, and they all seek the best path of least resistance, also known as the Law of Momentum Conservation.  Hence, in a few minutes they are happily ticking together.  Here at the beach I could show you a quick example of resonance at work by this simple experiment – stick a seashell to your ear and listen.
