Orbitsound T3 wearable speaker is a headphone alternative

Headphones are everywhere these days, with portable media players being seen in all facets of today's life.  Wearing headphones create a personal sound environment  without typically disturbing those around the user.  But Orbitsound is offering an alternative to the headphone with their T3 wearable speaker which apparently provides you with,

Your own personal stereo aura around your head.

The T3 is designed to wear around your neck, and is roughly the size of a typical cellphone.  The unit weighs about 115g and incorporates a rechargeable battery which gives you about 10 hours of playing time from the onboard 8 watt amplifier.   Of course, the ideal of the headphones creating a personal and private listening environment is pretty much out the window, since an eight watt speaker worn on someone's chest will invariably involve those around them, intentionally meaning to do so or not.  Still, there are places where I could see it being quite handy.

Also to note that using an external speaker instead of headphones/earbuds could be easier on the ears, particularly if the wearer tended to listen to the music too loudly in the first place.

I do have to say, though – does this remind anyone else of the original speaker equipped transistor radios that were on the market quite a while back?  Amazing, it must be true that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
