Hammacher Schlemmer has introduced a video microscope that will also plug into a USB port for computer use. The compound microscope sports a 2 MP camera that can capture both still pictures and video (handy if you were viewing living samples). The display resolution is 320×240, and the three objective lenses (4x, 10x, or 40x) gives 40x – 400x magnification. When combined with the 4x digital zoom the net magnification can be as high as 1600x.
The microscope's 128mb built in memory supports 120 still shots or 40 minutes of video. There is also a SD card slot, and illumination is provided by two 6 watt light sources. The microscope comes with a small slide kit and a carrying case. IT can be found from Hammacher Schlemmer for $300.
