Garmin Releases New Oregon GPS Series

Garmin has introduced a new series of their well known GPS units, called the Oregon series.  The rugged new units sport a color touch screen and are waterproof.  New features include a high resolution three inch color screen and “Hotfix” support for quick use later without waiting for a satellite fix.

The Oregon 400i gives shoreline details,  depth contours, and boat ramps for inland lakes and navigable rivers, making it ideal for the freshwater fisherman.

The Oregon 400c provides chart coverage for coastal U.S. and Bahamas, making it a sailor’s friend.

The Oregon 300 features a worldwide basemap with shaded relief.

And finally the Oregon 200 provides a basemap to which you tailor to your needs with additional mapping or charts.

The Oregon series looks to be a very versatile and modern set of GPS units that should provide a lot of functionality for Garmin’s customers.  The only detail that concerns me is the durability of the touch screen.  However, in the past Garmin’s units have survived some rough handling on my part, so hopefully the new units will live up to the standard.

The new Garmin Oregon Series GPS Units will sell between $480and $640, depending on model.
