The Noah High Performance Vehicle by Andrei Franca is not a unicycle – there are actually two wheels on the vehicle. As you might suspect from looking at the picture of the Plascar Automotive Design Contest 2007 second place winner, a human rider is the control device for the vehicle, with the person's lean determining acceleration, turning, and braking. (The control mechanism is not unlike a Segway.) This is all done without pedals or buttons, you just climb on and lean the way you want to go. The two tires can even shift up and down, creating a solid contact patch as the vehicle leans into curves.
The ideal of getting on a performance vehicle that has no controls other than leaning the way I want to go actually seems like a great concept, almost like flying on the ground. Sign me up for a test drive.
