Summon Your Tesla Car Using Your Apple Watch

image

Have you ever seen a western where our hero summons his faithful steed in a moment of crisis? Or how about in Knight Rider, where Michael summons Kitt using his wrist communicator? Well, if Elon Musk and Tesla have their way, such capability may one day be in our grasp. And you can experience a little of that today using your Tesla and your Apple Watch, using the Tesla app’s “Summon” feature.

The app by Rego Apps (available on the App Store) currently allows you to summon your vehicle from a private garage or other such place. But Tesla CEO Elon Musk is bullish on the future, where you can summon your vehicle from anywhere in the country. The vehicle would show up at your location wherever you are, and it would even stop to charge along the way if needed.

Currently the Autopilot-equipped Tesla needs to be within 39 feet of its final parking spot for everything to work, and for legal reasons it must be used on private property. But knowing that you can summon your Tesla today to meet you at your doorstep is very much a nod to the future.

I’m looking forward to the future, where finding a parking space would no longer be an issue. Just drive to that public event and send the car off, only to be summoned later when needed. And if you get stranded somewhere, it would take less than a whistle to summon your high-tech metallic steed…
