Portable DVD Player Also Supports SD and USB Drives

It makes sense to have a round player for a round disc, at least to me.  The Round Portable DVD Player is just such a player, and it sports a 3.5" TFT screen.

The player will also read your SD card or USB drive and play the media on it, as well as give you TV out for hooking up to your big screen.  By supporting USB drives and SD cards the device will give extra life beyond a DVD only player.

The portable player supports MPEG-4,DVD,SVCD,VCD,CD, and DTS, and it comes with a remote control for when the player is out of arms reach.

The Round Portable DVD PLyer costs $110, and you can find it at Sourcing Map.

DIY Flashlight Made into Burning Laser

FLashlight_Laser_062408

Building a high output laser out of a flashlight is an easy project, provided that you have the components.  In this DIY video KipKay builds a rather potent burning laser from a flashlight and a high output laser diode retrieved from a spare DVD player.  The How To finished product can quickly set a match on fire and instantly pop a balloon from the intensity of the beam.

Please note that the finished product can be very dangerous, and it can blind a person in seconds. NEVER POINT A HIGH OUTPUT LASER AT THE EYES, OR BLINDNESS AND EVEN DEATH CAN OCCUR. USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION.  If you are not sure of what you are doing, please do not attempt any such project.

Hp tx2500z Tablet Computer Released

hp_pavilion_tx2500z_061308

HP has released a new tablet PC, the tx2500z. The 4.59 pound tablet boasts a 12.1 inch 1,280x 800 touch screen.  Other features include an AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM processor, powerful ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics, memory configurations up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, a roomy 320GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g WiFi (optional  a/b/g/), and a DVD burner.  Optional items include Bluetooth and a fingerprint scanner.

I personally have an old HP TC1100 Tablet PC that I use more or less daily, and I refuse to part with it until something better (in my opinion) comes along. Since HP has dropped that form factor in favor of the heavier full laptop tablet versions I guess I will be holding on to it a bit longer.  However, I can see how this type of tablet would be handy for those who want only occasional use from the tablet functionality.

The base price for the tablet is $1049, after the current $99 instant savings being offered.

Sony DVP-NS708H Upconverting 1080p DVD Player

sonydvdupscaleYour collection of DVDs are no longer the cutting edge technology they once were.  With the introduction of Blu-ray DVDs, hitting video at 1080p, the original DVD is really starting to show its age. But if you have a decent DVD collection it may be cost prohibitive to replace your entire collection.

That is where an upconverting DVD player can fit into your setup. An upconverting DVD player can take your standard DVD (at 480 resolution) and convert it on the fly to 1080.  In the past the upconverters went to 1080i, but Sony has introduced the DVP-NS708H, which can upconvert to a full 1080p.

While the converted output will not compete with true 1080 from a Blu-ray disc, it will look better than the standard DVD output. With the one product your entire DVD collection just got better. If that wasn't enough, the player supports PhotoTV HD support, allowing you to view high resolution photos in true HD.
