CamBall is a Small Digital Video Recorder

The CamBall is one of the more unique small digital video recorders that I have seen recently.  The small ball shaped recorder can capture MPEG-4 video in 320×240 or 640×480 resolutions.  The CamBall stores the video files on small SD cards in sizes up to 8GB.

Now, before you get too excited about the cool little device, I have to tell you that it is available only in Korea as of this writing, and it sells for about $200.  Upon looking at the information it appears that the CamBall also has an weatherproof case available, which would make it handy for outdoors use (or in the event that you drop it, no doubt).  There even appears to be a version of the camera that includes an MP3 player, but the earphones may be bigger than the camera itself.

Now, when looking at the picture, doesn't it just scream that it needs to be in another small ball so that you can roll it and it stays pointing in the right direction (like those toy rolling eyeballs).  This way you could roll it in a direction and get the surveillance video you need (or just roll it down the steps to see what happens).  To note, the CamBall does not have this feature, and I am not sure if it would take the stress to start with – but it would be cool.

If you are capable of reading Korean websites (better than me, at least) you can find out more information on the CamBall website.

Luxeed LED Keyboard Makes Its Own Light Show

The entertaining Luxeed LED keyboard has been available for over a year, but only in Korea. Now it has finally been brought to the western market. The keyboard incorporates 430 LEDS, all of which are controllable via software. This gives the keyboard the ability to do some very impressive lighting effects.  You can make the keyboard beat to the music, or have it cast an eerie glow as you write your Halloween memoirs.

The software is Windows compatible, and the keyboard comes in black or white. The Luxeed LED Keyboard is available from ThinkGeek for $200.

Samsung BlackJack 3 Releasing in Korea Mid July

BlackJack3_071008

Samsung’s BlackJack smart phones have been well met by the public, and Samsung is releasing its latest BlackJack III (model SCH-480) in Korea around the middle of July.  The smart phone is loaded with features including WiFi, Bluetooth, 2.6 inch touchscreen display (touchscreen?)  with 320×240 resolution, and a finger mouse (touchscreen AND a mouse?).

Also on board the unit is a 2MP camera for video calling and a micro SD card slot.  The device runs Windows Mobile Professional 6 (I guess it is a touchscreen), and will sell through SK Telecom. No definite word yet on its arrival elsewhere, but it should not be long.

Samsung Releases T-DMB Capable YP-P2 DMB Player

Samsung_YPP2_DMB_2_062408

Samsung has released its new T-DMB (Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcast) capable media player, the YP-P2 DMB, to the Korea market.  The device is also equipped with Samsung's own mDNIe(mobile Digital Natural Image Engine),  which is designed to give a more vibrant display on a mobile platform.  I have heard good things about Samsung's mobile displays using the engine.

The player is only 11.9 mm thick, and sports a 3 inch 16:9 touchscreen along with Bluetooth 2.0.  The YP-P2 DMB is available in black and white.  The device comes in a choice of 4GB, 8GB and 16 GB, at a suggested retail price of 239,000 KRW ($232), 309,000 KRW ($299) and 389,000 KRW ($376), respectively.

It is doubtful if the player as is will make its way westward due to the lack of support of T-DMB transmissions. However, it does leave the door open for an ATSC or DVB/T version of the player.  The chart below, courtesy of Wikipedia, shows the different Digital Terrestrial Television standards in the world as of this writing.
