The small and durable computers designed for student use has been in the news a lot recently, and Daewoo Lucoms now has an entry onto this area.  The low cost computer, named "LUKID", is  being launched for children in the Korea market.

The LUKID, based on Intel's Classmate PC, runs on the Windows XP operating system. The laptop features a 900 MHZ Celeron processor, nine inch display, and 512MB of RAM.  Interesting to note, the machine uses a 30GB hard drive, unlike other computers in the category that use solid state memory for durability.  Other features include WiFi, SD card slot and a USB port.

The Suggested price for the LUKID will be 549,000 KRW, or $528.  At that price I am not sure if it qualifies as "Low Cost", but it certainly does look portable and durable.

Dictionary_062308

Unichal has revealed the dixau in Korea during the World IT Show 2008.  What is the dixau, you ask? The dixau is a device that incorporates an English dictionary and character recognition in order to provide the user with a simple clickable interface to a dictionary while reading a physical book.  The dixau also provides a native language speaker recording of the word in question, so the user can hear it pronounced as well as getting the definition.

The device can support up to 17 dictionaries when used with an Internet connection. The suggested retail price is expected to be under $100.
