asus_zx1_062408Here is a Lamborghini that you could carry around in your pocket. Information on the upcoming Asus Lamborghini ZX1 mobile phone has been leaked, and it looks like it is a Window Mobile 6.1 smart phone / pocket PC that works on a quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge network.

The ZX1 will  feature support for the nice 3.6Mb/s HSDPA 3G network, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and standard  802.11 b/g Wi-Fi.

The display comes in at 2.8 inches, and the PDA phone is equipped with a welcomed 3MP camera.  Also included are the standard WinMo features, such as an audio/video player.  Other details are forthcoming.

Cardboard Bike is Very Green and Cheap

CardboardBicycle_062108

The Cardboard Bike, created by Sheffield Hallam University student Phil Bridge, has got to be the most earth friendly bike ever developed.  The entire bike, with the exception of the tires and chain components, are made from industrial cardboard.

The biodegradable Cardboard bike is not only earth friendly, it is also pocketbook friendly – the designer figures that the bike could be created for roughly 15 pounds.  The ideal is that a bike so economically priced would also be less of a target for theft.

The eco-friendly bike is only a floor model at this time, but there are hopes of getting a manufacturer involved at some point. And if you were curious as to what effects rain would have on the bike, it apparently is able to survive an occasional wetting.

A video report of the green bike, including an interview with the designer, can be found at the BBC Online.  I do have to wonder, as the reporter mentions, as to how it would be shipped – in another cardboard box, or in its own parts?

The Efficient CLEVER Concept Car Lives Up To Its Name

CLEVER_Concept_061908

The Technical University of Berlin has a compact vehicle design for city driving, and it has a clever name.  That is, its name is the CLEVER concept vehicle (Compact Low Emission VEhicle for uRban Transport).  The car uses a three wheel design (two back, one front) with a tandem seat configuration.  A computer controlled hydraulic rolling system gives zero lateral forces at angles up to forty five degrees, not unlike riding a motorcycle.  [more]

The Clever weighs in at 870 lbs, and measures 10 ft x 3.3 ft x  4.4 ft high.  The engine is a single cylinder 230cc displacement core that runs on compressed natural gas. Top speed is about 62 mph, and it produces less than 60 g/km of CO2 in doing so.

The narrow vehicle, if it makes it to full production, is expected to cost about $10,000.  More information can be found on the Clever Project website.

Amusement Park Bumper Cars made Street Legal

bumper_car_061908

A lot of us have memories of riding bumper cars from a local amusement park or traveling fair. I remember fondly riding such cars in my younger years at Camden Park, an amusement park my family would visit on occasion. Now, while riding I would often imagine driving the bumper car right out of the driving area onto the road and on to new places.

Well, of course that would never work, since those bumper cars picked up their power from the ceiling via an electrical pickup. But I am proud to say that I was not the only one that had that ideal.  Apparently it is becoming a bit of a trend to take those older carnival rides and making them street legal. And I love it.

The street rod conversions typically use a Kawasaki 750cc motorcycle engine, which lets them get up to decent speeds.  The price for the fun hot rods are painful at $50,000, but at least it does insure that you will not be falling into old habits and bumping other vehicles. Hopefully.
