Innespace Seabreacher Mini Sub Lets You Swim with the Dolphins

Seabreacher

I have seen sea creatures at play and imagined what it would be like to play as they do, gliding through the water, jumping and diving, and feeling virtually weightless in the water.  While it might not be possible to experience it 100%, the Seabreacher will get you very close.

The Innespace Seabreacher is a mini submarine in the form of a dolphin, which can indeed frolic about as it glides, jumps, and dives.  By using the downward rift of its fins the animalistic sub can propel itself out of the water and make a big, fun splash.  Just imagine sitting down into a mechanical dolphin submarine built for two and going for an aquatic adventure ride.

Thanks to the vehicle’s three axis control (pitch, yaw, and roll), the vehicle can perform a lot of tricks, including

  • Prolonged snorkel dives of 20 seconds at 20 mph
  • Dipping below the water and then jumping clear out of the water
  • Porpoising like a Dolphin
  • Barrel rolls and multiple roll overs
  • Mid air rolls with inverted landings
  • Pitching straight down and popping up backwards
  • Planeing at 30 mph with the canopy fully open
  • Diving underneath a rubber raft or prop boat

The vehicle appears to be very well constructed, incorporating fiberglass, Kevlar, and honeycomb core material.  The canopy on the Seabreacher is the same as a F-22 Raptor fighter jet, giving a wide viewing area while its three quarter inch polycarbonate construction keeps you secure and cozy.  The mini submarine is powered by a 240 horsepower supercharged Atkins marine rotary engine, and it can glide along at speeds in excess of 40 mph.

Diving in the Seabreacher is done not by ballast intake, but rather by forward momentum which allows it to virtually fly under the water.  Dives are limited to about 20 seconds due to air requirements for the engine, but the speed allows for some interesting freestyle movements.  Also, if anything goes wrong, the ride will always come back to the surface.

Now, consider this – the vehicle looks enough like a marine animal at first glance that you may be able to sneak up on an unsuspecting boat.  Wouldn’t that be a great way to greet some friends?
