To Boldy Slice Where No One Has Sliced Before

Captain’s Log, Stardate 29.99. The Enterprise is investigating a mysterious disturbance along the border of the Romulan Neutral Zone. Reports have spotted a large flying disc, covered in cheese and round pieces of spicy terran meat, hurtling towards Starfleet Territory. And it smells wonderful!

Now you can enjoy pizza sliced by your own Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter. If I tried, I could’t make this stuff up. The pizza cutter uses the disc portion of the enterprise model as a cutting wheel, slicing up your favorite italian pie. The officially licensed Star Trek collectable sports a laser etched stainless steel blade with a solid zinc alloy chromium plated body. With a generous 4 inch blade the cutter measures 8.5 inches in total length.

The Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter will set you back $29.99, and you can find it at Think Geek. But be warned – while the blade is sure to tear through almost any pizza, veggies, Romulans, Klingons, and more, it is suggested to be hand wash only. Apparently Scotty hasn’t got the deflector shields back up just yet.

But don’t take my word for it – Star Trek fans (or is that pizza cutter fans) everywhere are making and posting videos online.  After all (and I am paraphrasing from one of the videos below) – doesn’t every new Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter deserve its own video?

Star Trek The Exhibition Video Tour

Crunch Gear recently went on a tour of the Star Trek: The Exhibition at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute with Jeff Victor of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association.  Jeff was kind enough to give a personal tour, and the video tour shows a lot of the exhibition.  I find it, well, Fascinating.

If anyone is interested, there is a special Star Trek Overnight Package at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.  You get a 20% discount, and a pair of VIP tickets.  According to the sfi.org site,

VIP tickets are not available to the general public and VIP tickets are not dated, nor timed; with front of the line access! So, you can skip the crowd and go to this highly anticipated attraction on your schedule.  These Star Trek tickets also provide general admission to the Franklin Institute.

There you go, a video tour, special deal on accomodations, and VIP tickets.  At Nerd Beach we want to hook you up when it comes to Star Trek. You can find out more about the exhibition at the exhibition site.

Ice Cube Jewels For The (Excessively) Discriminating Taste

So, you are throwing a high end black tie party (maybe to celebrate the release of the new Star Trek movie on DVD?) and you want to impress a few folks.  Well, consider throwing a little bling in the drinks to get their attention.  The 3D ice cube gems allow you to create your own kind of icing for the drinks.

I would imagine that clear cubes would work best – After all, it would resemble diamonds, and it would avoid leaching coloring out to the drink itself.  It would also not last long thanks to their diminutive size, but a scoop of diamonds would look pretty cool going into a drink.

Of course, ice cubes shaped like the Enterprise (along with a large ice sculpture of the same design) would impress me the most at such a party, but to each their own.

Rubber ice Trays?

The first rubber ice cube tray was invented by Lloyd Groff Copeman. One day in 1928, while walking through some woods collecting sap for maple syrup, Copeman noticed that slush and ice flaked off his rubber boots easily, rather than adhering to them. Having recalled this incident over lunch with his patent attorney, he conducted experiments using rubber cups, and later set about designing and then patenting different types of tray: a metal tray with rubber separators, a metal tray with individual rubber cups, and a tray made completely of rubber

The Star Trek Experience has now boldly went

I hate to do this, but I must inform you that the Star Trek Experience in the Las Vegas Hilton has shut down.  The Future Museum opened in January 1998, and officially closed on September 1, 2008.

The problem was credited to a lease issue between Cedar Fair Entertainment Company ( who purchased Paramount Parks from the CBS Corporation) and the Las Vegas Hilton, but declining admission played a part as well.  The sets are simply too large to transport, so they will probably end up being destroyed.  The props themselves are slated to be returned to CBS, but where that may lead is unknown.

For more information about this one of a kind Trek Experience check out the Wikipedia Star Trek: The Experience page.  For the Trek fans it seems that things are becoming a bit dismal, but the new Star Trek movie in the works may relight the Trek fire in a major way.  Personally I would be happy with just a new Trek show, and right now would be the perfect time.

And for the record, a Star Trek exhibit in Vegas, baby, lasted 10 years.  That has to show something positive.
